Starbreeze shared a press release update for PAYDAY 3 this morning. The Swedish company mentioned that the game peaked at 1.3 million daily active users (DAU) across all platforms during the launch weekend, with a concurrent peak of 218K users. This isn't surprising, given that PAYDAY 3 was hotly anticipated and is also available on Game Pass from day one.
However, the game's reception was mixed to say the least due to significant server issues experienced by the community. In our review that just went live, Ule Lopez wrote:
At the time of this review's publishing, PAYDAY 3's servers remain inaccessible to everyone. Luckily, most of my review was done before they got nuked, so that won't hamper my opinions on this game. It will, however, impact my final score as the game is inexcusably inaccessible for a title that demands such a high price from consumers. Speaking of connection issues, PAYDAY 3 had plenty of instances where we were assigned to ghost players or where the game just didn't load the mission we were trying to load into at all. The few times when the game worked were fun and all, but they felt like few and far between compared to the rest of the times, where something always went wrong with either the enemy AI or everything else.
In the abovementioned press release, Starbreeze acknowledged that the matchmaking infrastructure hasn't performed as well as expected, encountering a technical issue that was nowhere to be seen during the beta tests. Starbreeze is now evaluating whether to change partner for PAYDAY 3's matchmaking services and might also make the game 'less reliant on online services'. As such, it sounds like fans will get their offline mode after all.
