Palworld is arguably 2024's most popular indie title at the moment, having exploded onto the scene earlier this year, bringing in millions upon millions of players in just a couple of weeks. That is despite the game being pretty barebones in terms of features, which is understandable given it's still in Early Access, but developer Pocket Pair seems to be doing its best to give its fans something to do.
Announced during the Triple-I Interactive showcase earlier today - an event dedicated to all things indie - Palworld will be getting what appears to be a multiplayer Arena Mode at some point in 2024. It will allow players to pick three of their best Pals and pit them against each other in one big chaotic brawl, with the last person standing declared the eventual winner.
We don't quite know how it will work in the actual game, as the trailer released alongside the video was extremely short, but you can check out the very small amount of gameplay Pocket Pair revealed at the 51-minute mark in the video above. We also didn't get a release date for the Arena Mode, but it will launch at some point later this year.
Despite being the game's first major update, outside various Pal raid additions, the teaser for Arena Mode has drawn forth a variety of reactions from people on social media. Understandably, you have a lot of people excited about the mode's upcoming arrival, giving them a new reason to dive back in after having fallen off the title in recent weeks, but you also have a lot of people who are concerned about its quality and how it's going to function.
For example, Reddit user WashombiShwimp has a much more tepid reaction, as they think that the mode won't be that enjoyable due to Palworld's wonky Pal AI. Other people, such as Reddit user Spanish_Peanuts, are concerned that things will get very meta pretty quickly, and you'll start to see barely any variety in Pals as everyone will be using the strongest ones right out of the gates.
