The end of the latest Pokemon Presents event included the reveal of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, the sequel to the beloved Pokemon Legends: Arceus, set to launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch in 2025. Pokemon Legends: Arceus released in 2022 and was considered by many to be a breath of fresh air for the Pokemon franchise. It did away with the established formula and took things in some bold new directions.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus released to strong reviews and was a commercial success, so many fans have been keeping their fingers crossed that Game Freak would revisit the concept at some point down the line. Rumors have been swirling about a new Pokemon Legends game in the weeks leading up to the latest Pokemon Presents, and now the game has finally been announced for release next year.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A is the title of the next Pokemon Legends game. Set in the Kalos region, last seen in Pokemon X and Y, the CG trailer for the game teased a handful of the Pokemon that will be featured and revealed that the plot would either be about building Lumiose City or rebuilding it. Since Pokemon Legends: Arceus was set in the past, many have assumed that the same will hold true for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, but the trailer also used some futuristic imagery that suggests it could be set in the future. Ultimately, Pokemon fans will have to wait for more official details to be sure.
In the meantime, it was confirmed that Mega Evolutions are coming back in Pokemon Legends Z-A, as evidenced by the use of the Mega Evolution symbol in the trailer. It's possible that there are other clues hidden throughout the trailer, and so it will be interesting to see if fans discover anything else. Fans may want to turn their attention to the Pokemon Legends: Z-A logo, as there's one interesting choice that may have some kind of implication about what fans can expect about the game.
