New Dead by Daylight Movie Adaptation Will Terrify Audiences On The Big Screen
gamespot.comCanadian gaming studio Behaviour Interactive and production companies Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are all joining forces for a feature film adaptation of the popular multiplayer horror game Dead by Daylight. Variety was first to report.
«In Dead by Daylight the Behaviour team has created a love letter to the world of horror, building an incredible environment teeming with atmosphere and terrifying villains--perfect for a scary cinematic adaptation,» producer James Wan said. «We're big fans of the game at Atomic Monster, and are thrilled to be teaming up with Blumhouse to bring this frighteningly visceral world to the big screen.»
Wan (The Conjuring, Insidious) and Jason Blum (Get Out, The Purge) will co-produce the adaptation, which has yet to set a director or screenwriter for the project. Dead by Daylight, released in 2016, casts one player as an evil killer and an additional four players working together as survivors trying to be …dead by daylight. Since its release, the game has reached over 50 million players worldwide.
The game has featured crossovers with other popular horror franchises via DLC featuring characters and settings from A Nightmare on Elm Street, Attack on Titan, Crypt TV, Evil Dead, Scream, Halloween, Hellraiser, Left 4 Dead, Resident Evil, Ringu, Saw, Silent Hill, Stranger Things, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Blumhouse is planning to merge with Wan's Atomic Monster, the company behind Malignant and Annabelle, in a deal that is expected to close in the summer. Blumhouse recently announced the launch of Blumhouse Games, a new subsidiary that will produce and publish «indie budget» video games for below $10 million.
