It’s been more than ten years since Game Dev Tycoon first dropped on PC. Later, in 2017, it launched on both Android and iOS, with an expanded roster of iconic game console renderings. Now, Netflix is bringing the popular title into its own gaming portfolio as Game Dev Tycoon expanded.
Netflix has added Game Dev Tycoon to the exclusive lineup of interactive entertainment. It means that Netflix subscribers can access and play the game directly through the Netflix app as part of their membership.
So, while the game continues to be available for purchase on the Play Store and App Store, Netflix subscribers can play this version at no additional cost. Not a Netflix subscriber? Grab the game for $4.99 from the Google Play Store.
Netflix is also adding exclusive content by including nods to its popular series and movies. Now, that’s a fresh twist to the game dev simulation, which already features renderings of popular games like Doom, Half-Life, Final Fantasy and Call of Duty. Back in 2012, it burst onto the scene from Greenheart Games. You get to run a video game studio, taking it from humble beginnings to a blockbuster success story. It harks back to the beloved classics of the genre like Railroad Tycoon and RollerCoaster Tycoon.
It all starts with a simple avatar and a garage setting, huddled around a PC in the 1980s. If you play your cards right, you could end up as a gaming mogul, crafting titles for the latest consoles in a swanky highrise office.
In the game, you get to work with new tech, create your own game engines and release lots of games. You also run betas and collect feedback for your games. Your virtual audience lets you know whether your game is yay or nay, ultimately leading to the success of your game (and business).
