Natalie Portman opens up about her return to Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with Thor: Love and Thunder. Taika Waititi's highly anticipated sequel sees the return of Chris Hemsworth's titular God of Thunder after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Instead of focusing on a solo-adventure for the Avenger, the movie sees Thor assemble a team to fight Gorr the God Butcher, Christian Bale's menacing villain. Partnering with Thor in the new movie are notable allies Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Korg (Waititi), as well as Portman's Jane Foster, who has since transformed into a powerful superhero.
Portman played a significant role in the first two Thor movies, Thor and Thor: The Dark World, in which her astrophysicist Jane served as Thor's love interest. The actor, however, didn't come back for Thor: Ragnarok, causing Jane's absence to be vaguely explained through an off-screen breakup. She finally returns to the MCU with Thor: Love and Thunder, although her character has undergone several changes. Portman's Jane is now Mighty Thor, who after claiming her ex-boyfriend's hammer Mjölnir, has gained similar powers as him. Jane is additionally seeking treatment for cancer, and her return becomes a big adjustment for Thor.

Now, in a new interview with Vogue, Portman communicates her feelings about returning to the MCU with Thor: Love and Thunder. She notes that coming back was a «surreal» experience, though there were apprehensions about whether she'd be able to fit in. Since she had worked on two Thor movies before, she says she came in with a certain familiarity, but at the same time, she felt like an MCU newcomer after missing out on Thor:
