Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi opens up about how the Guardians of the Galaxy were initially going to have a bigger role in the MCU film. While the MCU has changed significantly over the last few years since the Infinity Saga ended, some things remain the same. The MCU began with Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor as the iconic trinity that together brought the Avengers together. Since the three core franchises, the MCU has exploded with the addition of countless more Marvel heroes like Ant-Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Spider-Man, Shang-Chi, Captain Marvel, and more.
While heroes like Thor have explored the cosmic realms, another franchise that has taken the MCU beyond Earth are the Guardians of the Galaxy. Consisted of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot, Guardians of the Galaxy has had two installments thus far, withGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 coming out in 2023. However, before the third film comes out, the Guardians of the Galaxy made a stop in Thor: Love and Thunder, with Chris Hemsworth back as the Asgardian hero.

Even though the Guardians of the Galaxy made an appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder, there were plans to have them in a bigger role initially.
