Thor: Love & Thunder's Stormbreaker Changes Create A Big Plot Hole

Thor: Love and Thunder’s Stormbreaker changes create a big plot hole. Stormbreaker has been with Thor since Avengers: Infinity War, becoming his beloved weapon after his sister Hela destroyed Mjolnir, shattering it into pieces in Thor: Ragnarok. Stormbreaker was forged on Nidavellir ahead of the battle with Thanos and it’s been by Thor’s side ever since.
Thor: Love and Thunder puts Thor’s dynamic with his weapons in an interesting predicament. Having made his peace with the fact that Mjolnir was gone (seemingly for good), the God of Thunder was surprised to find that his old hammer resurrected itself and transformed ex-girlfriend Jane Foster into Mighty Thor. However, Thor continues to use Stormbreaker, which has the ability to summon the Bifrost to travel to any of the Nine Realms. Unfortunately for the God of Thunder, the villain Gorr the God Butcher steals Stormbreaker in a bid to open the portal to Eternity in the hopes that he could kill all of the galaxy’s gods with one wish.

The changes made to Stormbreaker in Thor: Love and Thunder create a plot hole precisely because Gorr the God Butcher is able to use the axe to open the Bifrost portal to begin with. Stormbreaker, however, seemingly has a mind of its own (at least to some extent). Thor’s axe is shown to be a bit jealous of Mjolnir, to which the God of Thunder assures Stormbreaker that his former weapon isn’t going to replace his new one at all.
