The original Thor: Love and Thunder opening scene featured Jane Foster and not Gorr the God Butcher. Director Taika Waititi returns to the MCU after the success of Thor: Ragnarok to continue the God of Thunder's MCU arc after the events of Avengers: Endgame. In his new adventure, Thor finds himself pitted against Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher, who is on a crusade to kill all gods after suffering a personal tragedy. Their respective arcs were therefore two of the most anticipated parts of the film, and Waititi gave fans what they wanted early by opening the film with a Gorr origin story.
