Earlier today, we finally got an update on MultiVersus, following the end of its open beta last year. Alongside a brief look at new gameplay footage, we also got a date for the game's full launch: May 28.
However, after a week of drumming up hype for today's re-reveal, some fans are disappointed that this is pretty much all we got. Despite constant speculation on what new characters will join the roster, none of them were revealed in the trailer, and we only got a brief look at the new stages.
"Week long buildup for a far-off release date and backend updates," says Twitter user @CONEY. "I love Multiversus to death but I really don't like their marketing starts."
Many fans agree, with a reply from @TheNitten reading, "The fact that they decided on this marketing plan after 11 months in the dark is like, unfathomable tbh."
The fanbase over on the MultiVersus subreddit is disappointed too. As Reddit user Necros9 writes, "I wasn't expecting much, and I'm still disappointed." WeehawMemes agrees: "Not even a name drop on a single new character? Not even a hint as to what the new mode is? Like... really?"
While we didn't get much, today's relaunch update did reveal that there would be a new PvE mode in MultiVersus when it goes back online.
As others have pointed out, we still have some time before launch in May, and this will probably be taken up with more frequent updates from developer Player First Games. The relaunch announcement did confirm that new characters will be on the roster too, so we'll probably get trailers for them ahead of time.
Of course, there are plenty of fans who are just excited to see that MultiVersus still exists, regardless of what was shown off today, after its open beta came to an unceremonious end last June. This came after months of fans complaining about infrequent updates with not enough new characters being added to the game.
