Ermac is finally coming to Mortal Kombat 1 next week on April 16 via early access, with Mavado to follow in May.
Mavado hasn't been playable since MK: Tournament Edition in 2003, over 20 years ago. He's one of the leaders of the Red Dragon, a criminal organisation rivalling the Black Dragon (which is led by Kano). In past games, Mavado didn't have supernatural powers like many others in the series, but he made use of whips with steel hooks to hold his own.
The trailer shows Ermac using his iconic telekinesis powers while summoning the souls he's made up of to pin enemies down. We also get to see a fatality in which he rips the hands and feet off his enemies, spins them in a circle, rips a bit more off, puts them back together, and then crushes them into one big blob with a cherry (read: head) on top.
His MK1 redesign didn't go down too well at launch, as many were upset that he didn't have a mask, going as far as to say it was the "biggest downgrade of all time". However, the new trailer shows that his face is the one piece of changeable gear he has. So, you can cover it up with a mask if you want.
First debuting in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Ermac is an amalgamation of souls. In the original and alternate timelines, he was created by Shao Kahn and served as an enforcer, pushing back Earthrealm's resistance.
In Fire God Liu Kang's new timeline, Quan Chi is the one who creates him, using the soul stealer to drain the Living Forest and contain all of its spirits in one single vessel.
While he appeared in the story mode as a key character, allowing us to speak to the dead King of Edenia known as Jerrod, he's only now being made playable as DLC, much like Quan Chi was post-launch.
With Ermac finally here, there are only two fighters from the first Kombat Pack left to be added - Homelander and Takeda. In the past year, we've seen Quan Chi, Omni-Man, and Peacemaker join the fold.
Mortal Kombat 1 reboots the popular fighting game's universe, following Liu
