While tens of thousands of gamers are enjoying Hades 2’s recent early access release, thousands more are looking back to indie developer Supergiant Games’ previous titles. While Hades 2 has quickly become the indie developer’s most-played game of all time, the first installment of the Hades franchise has also just broken its all-time peak concurrent player record, four years after launch.
Hades 2’s early access release went live on Steam on May 6, to the delight of fans of the mythological roguelike franchise. In less than 24 hours after launch, Supergiant Game’s sequel attracted more than double the peak concurrent player count set by the original Hades. As the game’s “Overwhelmingly Positive” feedback has spread, this number has continued to grow to a high of 103,567 concurrent players, making Hades 2 one of the most-played games on Steam. Gamers have praised Hades 2’s impressively polished early-access gameplay, story, and characters.
Hades 2 already features new Gods and bosses, along with more environments, enemy variation, and voiced characters than its predecessor in its final form. However, this surge in the mythological franchise's popularity has also led to a substantial number of players booting up the original Hades. In the last 24 hours, Hades has enjoyed 40,332 concurrent players, beating its previous 2020 record by nearly three thousand gamers. These numbers prove that even four years after launch, Hades is still considered one of the best roguelike games of all time.
With its original fusion of hectic combat and charming characters, all deeply rooted in ancient Greek lore and mythology, Hades was easily Supergiant Games’ most successful project.
