NetherRealm Studios have posted a short video on Twitter celebrating thirty years of Mortal Kombat. It features many of the developers who have worked on the games across those years and series creator Ed Boon pops up at the end to thank fans and ends with the words “We’re not quite done yet”.
This followed by a very short CGI animation which seems to show grains of sand falling from what I presume is an hourglass. To video then focuses on a single grain which explodes, perhaps suggesting some time travelling shenanigans for Mortal Kombat 12.

Unfortunately for Ed, a nice person over at Warner Bros. financials already announced the game was coming out this year. You can see the clip below from Warner Bros Discovery.

And there’s lots more to come, including the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, games also set for release this year with ambitious launch projections.
This does mean 2023 will see the launch of new games in the Street Fighter, Tekken and Mortal Kombat series, fighting game fans are going to have very sore thumbs by Christmas.
The most recent addition to the Mortal Kombat franchise was Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind, an animated film. Snow Blind was released on October 11th 2020 and is the third instalment in the Legends series.
Hopefully the game will be a little better than Mortal Kombat 11 which we scored 7/10 in our review way back in 2019.
