Mortal Kombat 1's Halloween event is here thanks to the newest patch, adding a Pit-themed version of Johnny Cage's mansion with a festive fatality coming on Friday. The only caveat is that it costs real money - you won't be able to earn it through an event.
This has sparked backlash among the community who are demanding other players voice their frustration by refusing to buy the fatality when it goes live.

"Paid fatality is just absurd," EmotionalAide6932 said, garnering over 1,000 upvotes. "I get the idea behind costumes on the Premium Store, but a paid fatality is just too much. Is NRS trying to kill the game before 2024?"
"Definitely agree," FistoPuncherelli said. "People really need to vote with their wallets and not buy this, or it'll set a really bad precedent."
Mortal Kombat 1 players haven't been happy with the game's MTX since launch. In September, they lamented its "predatory" Premium Store DLC, as the highly-requested Deadly Alliance Scorpion skin cost real money to get (at £8 no less, which is more than an individual DLC character).
What's worse is that it doesn't make it clear whether you can earn the skins elsewhere for free. Perhaps the Halloween fatality will be available in a seasonal tower or the shrine, but all we know right now is that it'll be in the store.
"Wow, I was frustrated enough with a shop for costumes in a full-priced game, but fatalities too?" GetRealPrimrose said. "This has fully solidified my decision to not buy the game."
"Shit is ridiculous," randomnameiguessy said. "The way it's looking, they might add animalities or friendships and make it so you have to pay for them."
