Capcom has revealed that its developers working on the current and next-gen RE Engine are using high-end PCs equipped with NVIDIA's RTX 4090 GPUs and AMD Threadripper PRO CPUs.
In an overview of the RE Engine, the Capcom developers have shared the systems that are helping them create next-gen gaming experiences. In 2023, the company is introducing new high-end PCs for engine developers which feature some really high-end specifications. The systems feature top-tier NVIDIA and AMD hardware which has led to a significant reduction in engine build time. It is said that prior to these upgrades, distributed builds took 15 minutes to complete but now you can complete a build locally in less than 5 minutes.
The system specifications include an AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5975WX CPU which offers 32 cores and 64 threads with large pools of cache, 146 MB to be exact. The chip runs at up to 4.5 GHz and while it may not be the newest Threadripper 7000 chip, it still packs a whole lot of multi-thread performance which is vital for building engine and game assets.
For the GPU, Capcom's developers have chosen NVIDIA's top GeForce RTX 4090 GPUs which offer 24 GB of GDDR6X memory and the power of Ada Lovelace which is currently the fastest GPU on the market. There's also 256 GB of DDR4 memory and 10 TB of SSD for each system. The SSD has some major benefits as it provides speedy access across all project assets since they can be retained on such a high-capacity drive.
