Over 26 years on from its original arcade launch in Japan, Virtua Fighter 3tb is being released for arcade machines by Sega as Virtua Fighter 3tb Online. It will launch in Japan on November 28. You can view the announcement trailer below.
Virtua Fighter was original released in Japanese arcades in 1996, while a year later, Sega released Virtua Fighter 3tb, which focused on three-on-three team battles. The upcoming release will build on Virtua Fighter 3tb by adding the online tech of Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, allowing Japanese players to compete against each other online.
Sega has also confirmed that Virtua Fighter 3tb will feature support for Aime cards, allowing players to view their records and rankings on a dedicated website.
Virtua Fighter fans’ considerable wait for a new mainline entry in the series has stretched on since the launch of Virtua Fighter 5 for PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2007 (which was preceded by an arcade release in 2006). An enhanced remaster of the game was released for PS4 in 2021.
