More Xbox games reportedly coming to PS5 as part of Microsoft’s ‘Latitude’ project
More first-party Xbox games are reportedly in development for PlayStation 5.
While it already had a strong foothold on rival platforms thanks to perennial best-sellers Call of Duty and Minecraft, Xbox recently announced plans to bring additional titles to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, starting with Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves and Grounded.
According to a new report from Windows Central, this new multiplatform push is codenamed “Latitude” internally.
“More upcoming Microsoft-owned games slated for PlayStation are already being developed,” the site claimed. “At least for now, they’re potentially obvious games you’d most likely expect.”
However, nothing should be ruled out, the report’s author added. “From what I’ve heard, Microsoft is pushing for no ‘red line’ for what games could come to PlayStation, and it all revolves around [CEO] Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood’s mandate to increase every department’s margins.“
Microsoft boss Nadella recently suggested the company was starting to reap the rewards of its increased multiplatform focus, with Xbox games performing strongly on the PlayStation Store.
“We are committed to meeting players where they are by bringing great games to more people on more devices”, he said during Microsoft’s third quarter earnings call in April.
Xbox has reportedly weighed up the idea of releasing Gears of War, Microsoft Flight Simulator, the next Doom game, Starfield and Indiana Jones for rival consoles, and boss Phil Spencer recently said he wouldn’t ever want to rule out any game coming to another platform.
