Sony's Morbius movie contains a subtle Spider-Man Easter egg that could make the film an essential part of Sony's shared universe. Starring Jared Leto as the titular vampire, Morbius is one of the most curious superhero movies coming out this year. Many viewers have wondered just why Michael Morbius — who lacks anything near the exposure of Venom — is a priority for Sony.
The trailers for Morbius have teased Morbius as a dark antihero whose experiments to cure himself of a rare blood disease instead transform him into a vampire. Surprisingly, the trailers have featured frequent nods to Spider-Man — including graffiti branding Spider-Man a murderer. More recent trailers have shown Morbius sweeping across a city's skyline, with the logo of Horizon Labs in the background. In the comics, Horizon was noted for researching advanced technology, and even employed Peter Parker for a time. It was generally assumed this was nothing more than an Easter egg, but it turns out it could actually be an important plot point.

Sony has begun to promote the Morbius movie on their official Daily Bugle TikTok account. The latest video, from social media intern Nicque Marina, sees her discuss the fact Michael Morbius has just turned down a major science award. Discussing Morbius, she reveals he's the world's leading expert on blood diseases, the inventor of "synthetic blood," and apparently he is in fact director of "the prestigious Horizon Labs." Presumably, Morbius will attempt to manage his vampire mutation using Horizon's technology, likely through use of this synthetic blood. This is an especially interesting move, as in the comics, Horizon Labs links Morbius to Spider-Man
