Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy is widely regarded as helping revitalize the superhero movie genre alongside the Wesley Snipes-led Blade trilogy and Fox's X-Men franchise. The first two films scored rave reviews from critics for its spot-on casting, stylish direction, complex villains and emotional storytelling, though the trilogy capper would see a more mixed reception for its overstuffed story, which producer Avi Arad would eventually accept responsibility for after pushing Raimi to include Venom, a character the director had no interest in.
