Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi isn't allowed to say if Bruce Campbell appears in it. The next Marvel movie scheduled to hit theaters marks Raimi's return to the director's chair after a long hiatus and sees him coming back to the superhero genre he helped popularize with the Spider-Man trilogy. Thanks to some pandemic-related release delays, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters on May 6.
After becoming friends in high school and working together on various projects, the film careers of both Raimi and Campbell began in earnest with 1981's The Evil Dead, which spawned a number of future collaborations. Fans of both are used to seeing Campbell perform in Raimi's movies in some capacity, often memorable cameos, including appearances in all three Spider-Man projects. This has viewers anticipating the actor's MCU introduction in Doctor Strange 2, with the first rumors sparked when Campbell reported being in London while the movie was filming there.

Now, during an interview with Fandango, Raimi is asked directly if his old friend makes a cameo appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The director not only declines to answer, but specifies that he isn't allowed to, tipping off that there is indeed something worth hiding. The non-answer should have prospective viewers wondering who Campbell could be playing that would justify such a muzzling by Marvel Studios. Check out Raimi's response below:
