Matt Smith explains why he agreed to play villain Loxias Crown, aka Hunger, in the MCU's upcoming Morbius. Starring Jared Leto as the titular Dr. Michael Morbius, the upcoming superhero film from Sony and Marvel tells the story of a biochemist who accidentally becomes a vampire after trying to cure himself of a rare blood disease. Initial trailers for the film hint at a darker tone and some horror elements, with Morbius acting as more of an anti-hero than a prototypical superhero.
A superhero, of course, is only as good as the villains he or she fights against, and Morbius will pit Leto's character against Loxias Crown, played by Doctor Who star Matt Smith. While much is still unknown about the film version of Crown, the character as portrayed in the comics intentionally turns himself into a vampire by carrying out experiments on Morbius. Trailers for the film haven't shown too much of Smith's character but do suggest that he has a dark side, hinting that Crown wants to unleash Morbius' killer instincts and bloodlust upon the general population.
