Liz Sheridan, who played Jerry's mother Helen on the classic long-running sitcom Seinfeld, has passed away at the age of 93. The actress was born Elizabeth Ann Sheridan in Rye, New York on April 10, 1929, the daughter of a singer and a pianist. Her performing career initially began far away from Hollywood when she began working on the stage in nightclubs as a singer and dancer, eventually graduating to Broadway when she was in her 40s. She appeared in a variety of musicals and plays in the late '70s, including Happy End, in which she co-starred with Meryl Streep and upcoming Back to the Futurestar Christopher Lloyd.
Before she moved to Hollywood, Sheridan's first brush with stardom was a passionate affair with 50s cinema icon James Dean, which she chronicled in her 2000 book Dizzy and Jimmy: My Life with James Dean – A Love Story. After she moved to Hollywood, Sheridan began a decades-long career as a character actress. Her most prominent roles were on Seinfeld (in which she played Helen in 21 episodes across all 9 seasons) and ALF (in which she played the nosy neighbor Mrs. Ochmonek on 34 episodes), but she had roles in television and film projects until she left the business in 2010. One of her final projects was the 2009 comedy Play the Game in which she stirred controversy for her sexually explicit scene with 60 Minutes iconAndy Rooney.
