Developer Mojang has announced its plans to drop support for PSVR in its ever-popular sandbox game, Minecraft. As outlined in a recent update on its website, you won't be able to play the game using PS4's virtual reality headset as of March 2025.
Minecraft has been playable in PSVR on PS4 since September 2020, when it was added in a free update to the game. It allows you to play the whole game in virtual reality, taking in the true scale of the buildings you make and the underground holes you fall into. While it's great to have the option, we imagine the player count using PSVR with Minecraft is low enough that Mojang is pulling the plug.
«After you receive the final update [in March 2025], you will still receive updates on your PlayStation® and be able to play without PlayStation®VR,» the team says. «From this point on you can keep building in your worlds, and your Marketplace purchases (including Tokens) will continue to be available. You will no longer be able to use your PlayStation®VR with Minecraft as it will no longer be supported in the latest updates.»
Mojang is currently working on a native PS5 version of Minecraft, though it's not known whether this will include support for PSVR2.
