Of all the factions that can or will appear in , one controversial faction being around is for the best. continues the franchise by putting the player, codenamed Rook, into a war between ancient deities vying for control of the realm. 's new combat seems to be pushing the franchise in a new direction. Aspects of remain while continuing to adjust to a more modern gaming ecosystem.
As with every game, the player will be joined by numerous companions throughout the story. There are currently seven known companions across the Rogue, Mage and Warrior classes. Even though only seven are confirmed for now, there are chances other companions, though likely in smaller roles, will pop up in the campaign.
Grey Wardens are talented warriors recruited to fight the Darkspawn, essentially demons, of the universe. They have their own set hierarchy and have been a crucial part of the history of this beloved franchise. This is in large part to them being the only known way of ever beating back the Blight. However, this is where their controversy has been at the highest.
The most recent one takes place in, where the Grey Wardens planned/were tricked into using demon magic to combat the demons. Though the player character was able to stop them, it left a mark on the reputation of this faction. Along with that, a group that is supposed to stay out of politics often involves itself in it between blights to gain advantages. Mixing these facts with recruits that are not often the most honorable people have left this supposed heroic faction in a morally gray area.
Despite all the controversy, it would have been a bad idea to not include the Grey Wardens as one of the factions in . A faction as entwined in the history of as they would feel missed if left out without a proper ending. There even seems like a chance that is trying to redeem the Grey Wardens and bring them back into a more favorable light.
