Pokemon added Clefiary and Teddiursa to its Squishmallows collection at the end of 2023 and has been relatively quiet about what's coming next since then. No surprise really as it tends to add two new Pokemon at a time with roughly six months between reveals. Dragonite was confirmed to be the next Pokemon Squishmallow, but it's still not on sale, and there's still no sign of what its partner Squishmallow will be. Well, there wasn't until Squishmallows confirmed who it will be via a new teaser video.
The teaser has Pokemon's existing Squishmallows gathered around a box, shaking in anticipation to discover what's inside. A phone then appears, scanning the box to reveal its contents. The first Squishmallow shown is the Dragonite one, images of which have been available online for weeks. However, the Marill Squishmallow next to it, which doesn't get nearly as much screen time, hasn't been shown at all until now, nor had its existence and imminent release even been officially confirmed.
Squishmallows confirms Dragonite and Marill are coming this summer, but didn't reveal when exactly they will be available to buy. A Dragonite Squishmallow listing at Walmart hinted the Kanto Pokemon's plush will be released in May, but that pre-orders will start in April. Since it's April now, and Squishmallows has quoted a summer release, that seems unlikely. Especially when every other Pokemon has had its 12-inch Pokemon Center Squishmallow released first and then other sizes have come to Walmart and other retailers at a later date.
Even though there are currently just eight Squishmallows in Pokemon's collection, it's somewhat surprising it has taken this long for Marill to be turned into one. The Water-type is not only one of Johto's more popular Pokemon, but it's also the perfect shape for a Squishmallow.
