DC Studios co-CEO and Superman director has confirmed who the villain of the upcoming DC Universe movie is and has provided a bit of a progress update.
On the social media platform Threads, Gunn dispelled any rumors about the main villain of Superman being anyone other than Lex Luthor. The filmmaker bluntly stated that the lead protagonist of the movie is Superman and the main antagonist is Lex Luthor, then reminded his followers to only believe information coming from him.
Gunn also gave a progress update for the film, estimating that it’s at approximately 18% completion and that he can’t wait to show it to everyone.
“Superman tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” reads the movie’s official synopsis. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
The titular role in Superman is being played by David Corenswet (Pearl, The Politician), while Lois Lane will be played by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan. They’re joined by Nicholas Hoult, Skyler Gisondo, María Gabriela De Faría, Sara Sampaio, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, and more. The superhero movie is set to release theatrically on July 11, 2025.
