2014’s Lords of the Fallen has its fans, but most would consider it very much a pretender to the Dark Souls throne. Well, the series is being rebooted with a new Lords of the Fallen (no more “The” at the beginning of the title) this year, and it looks like developer Hexworks is really looking to take the series to the next level, at least on a technical level. Earlier today during the State of Unreal showcase, we got a fresh peek at how Lords of the Fallen is taking advantage of Unreal Engine 5 tech, and the game is looking pretty damn impressive. Lords of the Fallen looks to be pushing a huge amount of environmental detail, which is all the more impressive when you consider the game features a dual-world system, with players being able to switch seamlessly between the land of the living and dead. Hexworks also makes use of UE5’s Lumen real-time lighting tech and what looks like some very detailed ray tracing. Finally, Lords of the Fallen uses UE5’s built-in character customization tools to allow players to make avatars with a wide variety of looks and body types.
