The now features password-free sign-in thanks to the new Passkey system. Players can enable this new feature for easier logins to their PlayStation Network accounts, replacing clunky old passwords with simpler solutions such as biometric sign-ins and PINs. At the same time, Sony also makes the case that passkeys are more secure, making it harder for malicious third parties to access your account information.
Before you start setting up passkeys, it’s important to note that you can always stick to using a password and two-factor authentication, and you can always switch back afterward. You should see a small section named “Sign In with Passkey” which should be deactivated if you haven’t yet used the feature. Click Edit to open a small pop menu. This lets you create a passkey.
At this point, you’ll be given options about where to save your passkey:
This essentially gives you options for using a PIN, scanning a QR code, or using the biometric sign-ins available on your mobile device. From there, just follow the instructions to complete passkey setup. The next time you sign in, you’ll be prompted to use your passkey; your password and any 2FA will be deactivated since they’re no longer needed.
If you have the PlayStation App on your mobile device, you may be prompted to approve sign-in via the app.
