BARCELONA—Honor on Monday announced the Magic5 Pro at Mobile World Congress, as well as the global launch of its foldable Magic Vs foldable. The two premium handsets look to compete directly with Samsung's Galaxy S23 Ultra and Z Fold 4.
The Magic5 Pro is a stunning piece of hardware, featuring a finely crafted glass exterior and aluminum frame. Rather than bunch the camera up into the upper corner of the rear panel like most phones do, Honor makes a showpiece of it with what it calls the Eye of Muse design. It's positioned centrally on the back of the phone and meant to invoke the concept of a timepiece. The Magic5 Pro comes in Black or Meadow Green.
Honor gives the phone a 6.81-inch LTPO display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The resolution measures 2,848 by 1,312 pixels for a density of 461ppi. That means it's about as sharp as the screen of the Galaxy S23+ (393ppi), but not as sharp as the S23 Ultra (500ppi). It pumps out 1,800 nits of brightness and supports DCI-P3, HDR10+, and over a billion colors.
The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile processor. It packs 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The Magic5 Pro has a discrete security chip to protect personal information, including biometrics such as face and fingerprint data. A 5,100mAh battery promises all-day power and it can be recharged quickly thanks to 66W wired and 50W wireless charging with Honor's SuperCharge wall plugs.
The camera system looks promising thanks to its triple-50MP arrangement. The main camera relies on a customized 1/1.2-inch sensor and has an f/1.6 lens, which allows lots of light to reach the sensor. The ultrawide camera has a 122-degree field of view and an aperture of f/2, while the periscopic telephoto
