Among the waves of massive triple-A titles that come out in droves, and often feel like the same game, there's inadvertently always a tiny indie that does something different. These titles may tell touching stories, hit upon a great gameplay mechanic, or give you an NPC follower named Kelvin. Whatever it may be, they remind us that you don't always need a ton of money and high-end visuals to make a good video game – Just look at Vampire Survivors.
It's a simple game - you just walk around and pick up upgrades and weapons that automatically kill swarms of enemies around you. It's a game that wastes no time on fancy visuals and animations–so much so that finding a different feature image for this news is a task in itself. Developer Poncle is happy with the formula and doesn't want to overreach by making another game that does the same thing.

In a conversation with GameSpot, studio head Luca Galante said that there's really no need for a Vampire Survivors 2 at the moment; but even if there was, it would have to be drastically different from its prequel. "With the way Vampire Survivors is designed, we can deliver both new content and new game mechanics on the existing game, so why make a sequel?" he said. "I think that if we make a sequel or a spiritual successor, then we should offer something radically new."
However, as with any indie, Vampire Survivors had humble beginnings. Galante went on to say that at the start, he just kept adding more content for the laughs. Even though it's a smash hit now, at the time, he found it tough to even get 100 people to play the game or comment on itch.
