Helldivers 2's latest patch makes a wide range of balance changes, but one in particular has left players scratching their heads. For some reason, the devs are implementing a feature that makes more enemy patrols spawn if you have fewer people in your party, making solo runs far more difficult.
This means that, if you're playing in a party of four, there will be no change to the current spawn rate of enemy patrols. However, Arrowhead obviously feels that the rest of us have it too easy, and is throwing more enemies our way if we don't have a full party.
As per the notes for Helldivers 2's 01.000.300 update, the change reads as follows:
Patrol spawning has been increased when there are fewer than 4 players. The fewer the players the bigger the change. For 4 player missions there will be no change compared to before. The biggest noticeable change will be for solo players at higher difficulties
Yes, you read that right - the difficulty is going to increase with the fewer Helldivers you have on your team. Arrowhead doesn't explain why this is being done, but presumably, it felt that the game had been made too easy in solo matches, and wants to amend that.
True enough, having fewer teammates means you can keep some resources to yourself. The amount of reinforcements you're allocated in a match does increase with each additional team member, but that's not particularly useful if you have someone running off and dying every two minutes. Speaking from experience, it's way better to have a reliable duo partner and take a mission on by yourselves than to open up your party to randos.
This change to the spawn rate of enemy patrols has baffled fans, with it being highlighted by a few players over on the Helldivers subreddit.
"I reaally need to know what was the thought process of this," says Reddit user amnekian.
"It's already hard to get an SOS filled during off-peak hours," agrees CruzaSenpai. "F*ck me for playing on my time off, I guess."
We'll have to
