It took a little longer than usual, but Helldivers 2's latest patch has finally dropped, giving us some new tweaks to certain weapons, an increase in difficulty for solo players, and some general balance changes. It's a pretty standard patch, but we all know how Arrowhead likes to leave the odd new addition out of the patch notes, and one such nerf seems to have hit Shield Generator Backpack users pretty hard.
First shared on Twitter by the HelldiversAlert account, a player by the name of Tulakale recently showcased a new change to the Shield Generator Backpack which is going to have Energy Weapon users on their knees. In the video, Tulakale shows themselves firing off a Punisher Plasma into the distance, with absolutely zero issues. All things are normal so far.
They then equip a Shield Generator Backpack and attempt to fire off another round, only to have it bounce off the inside of their shield and hit them instead. To make sure it wasn't a glitch or fluke, they fire off a second round and turn their poor Helldiver into a pile of body parts on the ground. While it hasn't been tested with other weapons just yet, it seems as though the game's latest patch now ensures the shield backpack will deflect not only energy weapon shots from outside the shield, but from inside too.
Like with all slight changes to a live service game, you be that the community has mixed opinions on this change. For starters, you have people that are applauding developer Arrowhead for keeping the game's logic consistent. While it's not great from a gameplay perspective, forcing you to use certain weapons if you want to use a shield backpack, it simply makes a lot of sense for the shield to deflect energy weapons from inside if it's deflecting them from outside too.
On the other hand, you have people complaining about nerfs once again, claiming that Arrowhead is "making the game worse" before fixing more important issues such as the medal delivery system. It's a fun little discovery,
