Taking the reigns from Palworld, Helldivers 2 has become the latest surprise hit of 2024. As hundreds of thousands of people have flocked to play Arrowhead's latest game, the studio has been doing all it can to cope with the unexpected influx of players. Now the server capacity has been upped and wait times reduced, even more people might be convinced to join the battle to save Super Earth. If that sounds a lot like what you're planning to do this weekend, make sure you don't fall for the Helldivers scams cropping up on Steam.
Highlighted by Wario64, there are three Helldivers listings on Steam, two of which are heavily discounted, one by 50 percent and another by a massive 75 percent. Unfortunately, you cannot fight for democracy for just $12.49. The two discounted listings are both scams. Attempts to capitalize on Helldivers 2's popularity by tricking people into buying games that aren't Helldivers 2 at all.
This doesn't appear to be a case of someone making a bare-bones copy of the game as was the case for a fake Left 4 Dead game that popped up on mobile a couple of years ago. It's even lazier than that as the listings are for other games and have simply been renamed Helldivers 2 in the hope that potential customers will see the lower price and not properly check what it is they're buying before it's too late.
