Today, during the NACON Connect 2024 event, French developer Spiders announced that GreedFall II: The Dying World will be released in early access this Summer on Steam.
A few developers from the studio appeared to discuss the RPG sequel. The main theme of GreedFall II: The Dying World will be discovery, as Spiders wanted to put a much greater focus on exploration. The art style is still Rembrant-inspired, hearkening to the Spanish Golden Age, albeit improved upon compared to the first installment.
GreedFall, as you might recall if you've played it, was set on the island of Teer Fradee. This sequel (which is actually a prequel from a narrative standpoint) takes place on the continent of Gacane, an old continent filled with many big nations, like Europe in medieval times.
The theme of discovery is also maintained because, whereas protagonist De Sardet discovered Teer Fradee in the first game, here players will step into the shoes of an indigenous person arriving on the continent. Gacane is a dying world, as mentioned in the title, due to the spreading Malichor plague. It's also being ravaged by constant fights between nations. Players will find returning factions as well as brand new ones.
GreedFall II, just like its predecessor, links companions to factions. As such, some companions may not stick with the main character for the whole adventure, depending on the player's choices. Romance options will be available, and multiple endings to this non-linear game have been confirmed.
Spiders also tweaked the combat system to be more tactical. Whereas the first game allowed a party composed of the main character and two companions, GreedFall II enables full control over a party of four characters, just like BioWare's titles that have been such a big inspiration for the studio. There's no word yet on how long the game will stay in PC early access, but the full launch will
