Sony’s Santa Monica Studio had a big surprise for God of War fans at Thursday’s The Game Awards: free DLC for God of War Ragnarök. There’s a second surprise — it’s out in just a few days.
God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla will send Kratos (and Mimir) to Valhalla on what Sony Interactive Entertainment describes as a “deeply personal and reflective journey towards a future he never thought possible.” The unraveling adventure is said to blend the combat of the new God of War games with new elements “inspired by the roguelite genre.” The reveal trailer for Valhalla shows Kratos engaging in combat with a variety of enemies from Ragnarök, falling in battle and trying again and again.
On the PlayStation Blog, Santa Monica Studio detailed how Valhalla’s mechanics will work.
Kratos will have access to all his weapons and fully-upgraded skill trees at all times, but must commit to a shield and path of Spartan Rage for each attempt. As you overcome the trials of Valhalla and explore its depths, you will make choices between temporary Glyphs for which Stats to upgrade, which Perks to select, which Runic Attacks to wield, and more. Each attempt can play out differently based on the rewards you choose, so keep your strategy in mind when making selections!
God of War Ragnarök’s Valhalla DLC will be released on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and will be free to download from the PlayStation Store. It’s out on Dec. 12.
