Gex is back. Limited Run Games has confirmed that it is releasing the Gex Trilogy using its Carbon Engine, which gives retro games a new lease of life. Gex Trilogy has been confirmed for Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, #and PC. However, a release date is yet to be confirmed for the collection.
The first Gex was released in 1995 for the PS1, Sega Saturn, and 3DO, with a PC release coming a year later in 1996. This was followed by the sequel Gex: Enter The Gecko in 1998 for PlayStation, N64, PC, and the Game Boy Color. The trilogy was rounded off by Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko in 1999 which was released on PlayStation, N64, and Game Boy Color. That would spell the end of Gex with Gex 4, which was in development for PS2 and Gamecube, being cancelled. Another game called Gex Jr was also cancelled.
The first Gex was a sidescrolling platformer, while the other two releases had 3D stages that players could move around in. The plot follows Gex, who is an avid TV watcher, face off against Rez the Media Dimension overlord, who tries to force Gex to be his mascot. Their conflict stretches over the trilogy, with Gex making references to a lot of pop culture along the way. How those references will land now is something to ponder.
