may be on the horizon if a recent leak is genuine. The rumored remaster of the first three games is reportedly in internal testing, suggesting an official reveal be around the corner.
The latest rumor comes from YouTube and podcaster Middleagegamegy, who made a recent guest appearance on Riskit4theBiskit’s Infinite Podcast. As part of a broader discussion on upcoming Xbox games, Middleagegamegy revealed that the Gears Of War Collection was in internal testing. Rumored developer The Coalition has remastered the games in Unreal Engine 5, and the build is reportedly feature-complete.
He could not confirm whether the Collection includes Gears of War 4 and 5 or the Judgment spin-off. However, current rumors suggest it’s just the original trilogy.
Rumors of a Gears of War Collection surfaced in 2022 but gained momentum early last year. However, neither Epic Games nor The Coalition confirmed the remaster’s existence. Still, the studio, which developed the last two Gears games, hasn’t released anything since 2021’s The Matrix Awakens. It stands to reason that The Coalition must have something new in the pipeline.
The Coalition released Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, a remaster of the original game, for PC and Xbox One in 2015. Unfortunately, the second and third games never got the remaster treatment. It’s unclear if the Collection will remaster the entire trilogy in Unreal Engine 5 or just games 2 and 3. However, since the Ultimate Edition also uses the same engine as the 2006 original, developers may decide it warrants a second remaster.
