The Final Fantasy XIV Online open beta will begin on February 21sts, Square Enix has confirmed. However, it is only open to new players who have not played Final Fantasy XIV Online before, meaning players with existing accounts on other platforms will not be able to log into this version of the game until after it has fully launched.
Those who do wish to participate in the Final Fantasy XIV Online Xbox Series X|S open beta will need to follow these instructions:
1. As FINAL FANTASY XIV is an online multiplayer game you may need to adjust various privacy settings to play on Xbox Series X|S. You may do so by accessing the Xbox settings menu and navigating through the following options: Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety > Xbox privacy > View details & customize >
Communication & multiplayer. The following settings are required:
From the previous View details & customize menu, select Game content and confirm:
2. Navigate to the Microsoft Store, search for FINAL FANTASY XIV and visit the product page.
3. From the “…” option menu, select and download the FINAL FANTASY XIV Free Trial onto your Xbox Series X|S.
4. After installation finishes, launch the game and follow the on-screen instructions to begin your adventure.
This version of Final Fantasy XIV has all the content of the free trial, except the option to buy stuff from the game store. Additionally, the open beta and free trial will not require any Xbox subscriptions. However, the full game will require at minimum an Xbox Game Pass Core subscription, on top of the subscription fee for Final Fantasy XIV online. PlayStation players do not need a Plus membership to play the game on PS4 or PS5.
The full version of Final Fantasy XIV Online for Xbox Series X|S will launch at the conclusion of the open beta, but a solid date has not been confirmed for that as Square Enix will be gathering data and reviewing that before making a final decision.
