Xbox Game Pass has confirmed another day-one game for 2024 in the form of The Alters. The next title from award-winning developer 11 Bit Studios is still without an official release date, although the Polish company committed to bringing it to PC, consoles, and Xbox Game Pass sometime this year.
11 Bit Studios is best-known for its highly acclaimed survival strategy game This War of Mine. Originally released in 2014, This War of Mine won over 100 awards, including some high-profile accolades such as Best of PAX. Although no other title from the developer has yet swept award showings in such a manner, its 2018 city-building survival game Frostpunk did get nominated for multiple accolades, in addition to winning in the Best Visual Design category at the Australian Game Awards 2018.
The studio is now taking another crack at survival games with The Alters, which was just confirmed as a day-one Xbox Game Pass release during the latest Xbox Partner Preview event. The March 6 broadcast also debuted its gameplay reveal trailer, showing nearly four minutes of footage from the upcoming title. The video illustrated The Alters' core gameplay loop of creating clones of protagonist Jan Dolski to help him run a station on a hostile planet he gets stranded on. These eponymous Alters are described as alternate versions of Jan who made different decisions in life, thus developing into distinct people with their own unique skills, hopes, and fears.
The Alters will be the fifth title developed or published by 11 Bit Studios to reach Xbox Game Pass since the service was launched in 2017. It will also be the company's first game to be treated to a day-one addition to Microsoft's subscription catalog. 11 Bit Studios titles have so far enjoyed extremely long Xbox Game Pass stints, with only one of them ever leaving the service to date after two and a half years.
