Xbox Game Pass members can play Evil West with their subscriptions starting today. Developed by Polish studio Flying Wild Hog, the action-packed third-person shooter is the tenth title to reach Xbox Game Pass in March 2024.
Originally unveiled in 2020, Evil West turned quite a lot of heads due to its Darkwatch vibes. The promise of a paranormal western adventure seemed eerily reminiscent of the forgotten 2005 FPS, and the game very much ended up delivering on that front. Pre-release buzz aside, Evil West kind of came and went in November 2022, failing to make a significant mark on the market in spite of solid reviews. This later made some fans of the genre label it as one of the most underrated games of the year.
Anyone who missed this 2022 title can now experience it via Xbox Game Pass, which added Evil West on March 21. The XGP version of the paranormal western shooter is available on both PC and consoles, and comes with 29 achievements worth 1,000 Gamerscore points in total. Evil West isn't a particularly long game, with a typical story run being estimated to only take around ten hours. But aficionados of third-person shooters might end up getting more out of it if they are partial to multiplayer, as the game's entire campaign is also playable in co-op.
The cooperative mode has received widespread praise from the fandom, and is one of the game's most frequently mentioned qualities in its Steam user reviews. Speaking of which, the shooter currently has nearly 6,000 user ratings on Valve's storefront, whose overall number of recommendations puts them above the «Mostly Positive» threshold. While many reviewers have also praised Evil West for its multiplayer component, some have criticized the fact that only the host is able to progress through the story in co-op, while their partner is just there for the ride.
