The annual Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival is in full swing in Japan, and during the event’s opening keynote, the curtain was fully pulled back on the upcoming Dawntrail update. The fifth major expansion for Square Enix’s MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail will take players to a new tropical island region and offer a full visual revamp and much more.
Coming out of the FF14 Fan Festival, we got a look at Dawntrail’s Pictomancer job that allows you to cast spells and summon creatures with a magic paintbrush, as well as the Female Hrothgar race, new city Solution Nine, and the usual array of dungeons, raids, and other challenges. Just can’t wait for all those Dawntrail goodies? Well, plenty is happening in the meantime. Final Fantasy XIV 6.5 Part 2 drops next week, continuing some of the stories begun in the first part of the update. After that, a crossover questline with Final Fantasy XVI, entitled “The Path Infernal,” will drop in April. Here’s a teaser trailer for that.
Oh, and are you eager to play Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox Series X/S? Well, an open beta test of the Xbox version will begin sometime in February.
Final Fantasy XIV can be played on PC, PS4, and PS5, and the Xbox Series X/S version arrives sometime this spring. Final Fantasy XIV ver. 6.5 Part 2 drops on January 16, the Final Fantasy XVI crossover arrives in April, and the Dawntrail expansion sails into port sometime in early summer.
