Following on from yesterday’s unexpected Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth update, where publisher Square Enix promised the game was progressing smoothly and that a release date would be nailed down soon, the firm has offered a vague update on how traversal and navigation across Midgar will function in the upcoming title.
“Players will be able to journey across the wide and multifaceted world with a high degree of freedom, experiencing a myriad of different stories along the way,” the statement signed by director Naoki Hamaguchi notes. There are no new screenshots or videos, just the ambiguous statement atop a charcoal grey background.
All of this feels a bit odd to us, because the publisher obviously has Final Fantasy 16 coming out later this month, and you’d expect its attention to be fully focused on that – at least until July, anyway. Nevertheless, it looks like we may be getting daily Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth updates for the foreseeable future, especially seeing as these tweets are numbered.

My assumption of the reason why they made this statement was to show that they’re still working on FF7 Rebirth. While that sounds obvious, SE has gone kind of silent on the game and we were supposed to have a release date slated this year and we don’t.
