When it comes to passionate fanbases, you'll struggle to find many as passionate as Final Fantasy. Unfortunately, it can also manifest into something rotten, as legendary Final Fantasy writer Kazushige Nojima recently complained about abuse he's been receiving on social media over the direction of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Earlier this month, Nojima tweeted about the abuse he's been getting over the years, explaining that while he's not phased by criticism of his work, he's getting increasingly frustrated by attacks on his person. Nojima states that he always wants to "protest and deny" the claims, and "curses anyone" who sends him abuse when he's just trying to tweet out a picture of his guinea pigs.
The response from Final Fantasy fans has been nothing but wholesome, as those wishing to defend Nojima have been rallying for the writer ever since. Their efforts have culminated in something pretty special, as Final Fantasy fans have now managed to get #ThankYouFFVIIDevs trending on Twitter, which is full of people expressing their love for Final Fantasy 7 and how much the game means to them.
Most of them are thanking Nojima for the characters he helped create, as well as the story of the original game, while also expressing excitement about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and the wild direction that it's more than likely going to go in. Some are even making fan art specifically for this campaign of kindness and sharing it on social media to help spread the word.
