There are a lot of eternal arguments in video games that will almost certainly never be settled. PlayStation or Xbox, graphics over gameplay, or for PC players in particular, keyboard and mouse or controller. Hori might have the solution for that last one. Its Tactical Assault Commander combines keyboard and mouse with a controller, and now you can pre-order a model that has been specifically designed with Final Fantasy 14 players in mind.

Officially licensed by Square Enix, the new black edition of the Tactical Assault Commander has the game's logo printed across the middle. If you're like me who was unfamiliar with this gadget before today, you might look at the keyboard-controller combination and wonder how on earth you use it. It's actually pretty simple, and for games that are best played with an analog stick and key inputs, like Final Fantasy 14, it could be the solution to a problem you didn't know existed.

The images on the Tactical Assault Commander's store page show how the controller should be used. Rest your hand on the pad, positioned in a way that your thumb is on the stick and your fingers can reach the 22 keys, a FF14 logo on the 14 key which is a nice touch. In-game functions can be assigned to all of the keys, and the peripheral can store as many as eight profiles meaning you can map different buttons to different commands for various builds, or others can use it too if you need to share.

Hori's Tactical Assault Commander controller combines elements of keyboard and mouse use with controller use. Use its analog stick while being able to easily reach 22 programmable keys. Compatible with PC, PS4, and PS5.

Although the Tactical Assault Commander screams PC, Square Enix makes it very clear that the controller works great on PS4 and PS5 too. Even though its companion app is geared towards PC, any of the setups you create and save in there can be used when playing Final Fantasy 14 on PlayStation too.
