Just around 10 days since its release, Helldivers 2, the sequel to the 2015 indie hitHelldivers, developed by Arrowhead Games Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, has already achieved a remarkable feat by surpassing Destiny 2's all-time Steam concurrent player count. This rapid achievement underscores Helldivers 2's immediate impact and promising trajectory in the gaming community.
Helldivers 2 was officially announced at the PlayStation Showcase event in May of last year, revealing a shift to a third-person perspective instead of its original top-down gameplay. Initially slated for release on PS5 and PC in 2023, the game faced delays and was finally launched on February 8. However, Helldivers 2's launch was plagued by significant issues, including crashes, matchmaking problems, and login troubles. Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt promptly addressed the situation, acknowledging the studio's «crisis mode» as it worked to resolve the issues and provide updates to the community via the official Helldivers Discord channel.
Despite initial hurdles, Helldivers 2 has had a strong start, surpassing the all-time Steam concurrent player counts of several renowned titles. According to SteamDB, the game has achieved an all-time concurrent peak of 333,827 players, placing it 28th, ahead of notable titles such as Starfield, Counter-Strike, and Destiny 2, with 316,750 concurrent players currently. However, Arrowhead Game Studios has acknowledged that the surge in player numbers has led to server capacity issues, despite its best efforts to address the problem swiftly, and it is currently experiencing challenges in accommodating all players. Nonetheless, the studio reassures the community that it is working diligently to resolve these issues and committed to providing a fix as soon as possible.
It's worth noting that the developers of Helldivers 2 are making significant efforts to ensure the game is error-free, as evidenced by the numerous updates it has received since
