A lot was at play in episode 7, “Thermopylae”, as John and Makee briefly connected on Halo through the artifact. While Makee wants to use the Halo as a haven for peace, John still fights to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Covenant.
After their connection is interrupted, John finds support from Kai and the soldiers on Onyx. He goes on to look for his armor and locates James Ackerson with the help of Cortana. He then takes John to his armor but also reveals Margaret Parangosky’s plan. She wishes to annihilate the Covenant by sacrificing the Spartan III fleet and possibly even destroying the Halo with a virus.
Meanwhile, Soren and Laera’s search for Kessler continues and they end up in Thermopylae, where Soren, John, Kai, Riz, and Vannak trained as kids to become Spartans. Towards the end, the three make it out of the lab with an ancient alien scientist’s work. They also get a glimpse at the technologically advanced city her people built. At Thermopylae, Soren intervenes when Kessler’s spartan training begins. But despite his efforts, Kessler and Laera get captured by UNSC soldiers.
Lastly, John finally dons his armor and shows up in all his Master Chief glory, motivating soldiers around him. He confronts Talia Perez but reveals that he won’t be joining her in the battle against the Covenant. The two bid farewell as Perez follows Kai-125’s lead.
Meanwhile, Ackerson threatens to expose Parangosky for her actions on Reach and Onyx. He is arrested right after the Master Chief leaves the planet on an unauthorized ship. The episode ends with Master Chief finally arriving at the Halo’s location, amidst a massive galactic war
