Ed Boon and John Tobias created the iconic and infamously brutal fighter Mortal Kombat way back in 1992. While they've never stepped their virtual feet into the game as guest fighters, the modding community has been working hard to change that.
BeyonderZ uploaded a video to YouTube showing off their mod which swaps Scorpion for Ed Boon, finally putting him in the game. It's a little cursed, sure, but seeing Boon rip people's spines out in a light blue jumper as casually as a trip to the shops is worth venturing into the uncanny valley for.
Boon shared the video on Twitter earlier and revealed some fun trivia about the idea, "You wouldn't believe how many times it's been suggested that we make Ed Boon an MK fighter. Not gonna happen."
While Boon and Tobias haven't been added to the series themselves before, there is a character named after them. When Bi-Han was resurrected, he shed the mantle of Sub-Zero and took on the name Noob Saibot. Read that backwards.
He doesn't wear a blue jumper though. Instead, he has a black ninja outfit and white eyes, but if you wanna imagine Boon underneath the mask, go ahead.
The mod is currently locked behind BeyonderZ's Patreon, but it will launch to everyone else on May 1.
We still don't have Noob Saibot in Mortal Kombat 1, but leakers claimed last year that the story DLC will see Bi-Han transform into the unsettling phantom in Fire God Liu Kang's new universe.
Boon himself all but confirmed as much last year. He shared a Reddit post which pointed out that "MK1 is only two slots away from being the first game in the franchise to include all their male ninjas as playable characters", adding, "Just wait."
So, in a roundabout way, we should be getting Boon in Mortal Kombat 1, just not in the same vein as the mod.
Mortal Kombat 1 reboots the popular fighting game's universe, following Liu Kang's altering of the events of Mortal Kombat 11. It features a broad range of fighters, an expanded story, and the all-new Kameo
