Microsoft presented several heavy hitters at its Xbox Games Showcase but kicked things off with a new trailer for Playground Games’ Fable. The highly-anticipated open-world RPG was announced in 2020, and save for its release on Xbox Series X/S and PC, nothing else was revealed.
Besides the inclusion of Richard Ayoade of The IT Crowd fame as the Giant from Jack and the Beanstalk, what’s most impressive about the reveal is that it was entirely in-game. On Twitter, lead lightning artist Lukas Koelz also added that it was captured on Xbox Series X. While it didn’t give the best indication of the gameplay system, the visual fidelity is pretty impressive.
Fable still doesn’t have a release window, but it may be sometime before its release. VGC’s Andy Robinson reported last March that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 and Avowed were the closed titles to release after Starfield (both are confirmed for release next year). Fable is still “miles away,” though other titles like Perfect Dark and Everwild aren’t close either. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
