“Executive produced by two-time Oscar winner Peter Farrelly and directed by Alexander Yellen, Daruma tells the story of Patrick, a wheelchair user (played by quadriplegic Tobias Forrest), discovering he has a four-year-old daughter from a forgotten fling,” the synopsis reads. “He soon decides that he cannot parent her as she needs and enlists the help of his cantankerous neighbor Robert (a double amputee played by John W. Lawson) to transport her to live with her maternal grandparents on the other side of the country.”
The movie also stars Blue Bloods’ Abigail Hawk and The Rock Horror Picture Show’s Barry Bostwick.
Daruma will be released in theaters and on digital platforms on November 15, 2024. There is also a red carpet premiere for the film being held at Steve Sarowitz’s Wayfarer Theater in Highland Park, Illinois.
The film will be screened with option captions for the deaf and hard of hearing. Audio descriptions for the blind are available via additive listening devices in equipped theaters and through the All4Access app, which you can click here to learn more information about.
Additionally, the filmmakers created play-at-home Bingo cards and a viewing discussion guide for those watching Daruma digitally.
“We knew that a large swath of our audience would prefer to watch the movie at home rather than in the cinema for convenience and ease of accessibility, so we made the decision to screen in theaters and on platforms simultaneously,” said Yellen, who also did the cinematography for the film. “The fans of this movie have been supporting it for years: we couldn’t make them wait to see it any longer while we completed our theatrical window.”
