ET 2 (2025): Is The Poster Real or Fake? Will Steven Spielberg Direct?
The long-running ET fandom has been left asking if ET 2 (2025) is currently in development. Is the viral social media poster real or fake? Will Steven Spielberg be returning to direct the sequel? Here’s all you need to know.

A poster for ET 2 is currently going viral on Facebook and Twitter. It comes from the Facebook page, which has posted several similar posters of supposedly upcoming movies in the past. Its latest ET post sports the title ET: The Return to Earth and features the following description:
“Steven Spielberg reunites Henry Thomas and Drew Barrymore in E.T. The Return to Earth, a thrilling sequel to the beloved classic. Decades after their original adventure, Elliott and Gertie embark on a cosmic quest with E.T. to save Earth from ecological collapse and a universe-wide conspiracy. Dive into a heartwarming journey of nostalgia, bravery, and the enduring power of friendship, only in theaters Summer 2025.”
However, similar to previous posters from YODA BBY ABY, the ET 2 poster is fake and fan-made, as there is no sequel currently in development.
In the past, there were plans for E.T. 2: Nocturnal Fears to be developed. However, the plans for its violent and darker storyline were abandoned. Furthermore, Steven Spielberg did not want to return for it, as he believed that the sequel would undermine the original’s impact.
The legendary director hasn’t expressed any interest in directing another ET movie in recent times. So, we shouldn’t expect it to happen any time soon with or without him.
